Decolonizing Mental Health: Ethics, Attachment, Trauma & Restoration

6 CE Hours | Live Interactive Zoom Training

Mental health does not exist outside of history, culture, or lived experience. Yet many traditional clinical frameworks were developed within historical contexts that often overlooked the influence of colonialism, systemic inequities, and intergenerational trauma on psychological well-being.

Decolonizing Mental Health: Ethics, Attachment, Trauma & Restoration is an advanced continuing education course designed for licensed mental health professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of culturally responsive, ethically grounded, and context-informed clinical practice.

This interactive training explores the historical foundations of modern psychiatry, the impact of colonial trauma on attachment and identity, and the ways historical and structural experiences continue to influence mental health across generations. Participants will examine how trauma, abandonment, and survival adaptations can be understood through a broader clinical lens while strengthening their ability to provide ethical, evidence-informed care.

Rather than replacing traditional therapeutic models, this course expands them by integrating historical awareness, cultural humility, structural competency, and trauma-informed practice into assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making.

Throughout the training, participants will engage in case discussions, guided reflection, clinical application exercises, and practical strategies that can be immediately integrated into professional practice.
